A Brief Introduction

I/S: A Journal of Law and Policy for the Information Society is an interdisciplinary journal of research and commentary concentrating on the intersection of law, policy, and information technology. I/S represents a one-of-a-kind partnership between one of America's leading law schools, the Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University, and the nation's foremost public policy school focused on information technology, Carnegie Mellon University's H.J. Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management.

Professor Swire Expected to Testify Before Senate Judiciary Committee
Professor Peter Swire is expected to testify before the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary on Wednesday, June 25. The hearing, entitled "Laptop Searches and Other Violations of Privacy Faced by Americans Returning from Overseas Travel," is expected to discuss controversial and growing practice of the Customs and Border Patrol seizing laptops at the border as part of its routine searches when people enter the country, according to Swire. Commission Directed by Professor Shane to Host Inaugural Meeting Tuesday
A commission directed by Professor Peter Shane, which is expected to complete the first major news and society study in 40 years, will host its inaugural meeting Tuesday, June 24. The meeting, expected to last between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., will be webcast live at www.knightcomm.org. The meeting will be held at the Knight Conference Center at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. I/S announces the renewal of our partnership with IAPP
The staff of I/S announces the renewal of our partnership with the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the world's largest association of privacy professionals. The agreement continues to make all IAPP members subscribers to the journal and provides them with a copy of the I/S Journal Privacy Year in Review issue. All IAPP members have online access to the remainder of the journal's issues. Through this partnership, the I/S Journal welcomes 4,000 subscribers to our readership. The journal is proud of our affiliation with the IAPP, thereby facilitating this important link between scholars and practitioners.

I/S features:

• Research-based articles, typically solicited from leading academics and research-oriented practitioners, addressing a common theme, such as privacy policy, electronic commerce, electronic government, telecommunications policy, or economic and social development
• A section of commentaries, typically shorter and in a less formal style, addressing cutting-edge policy topics related to IT and society
• Book reviews
• Student research papers

I/S publishes three issues per year, both in hard-copy and subscription-based online versions. Because privacy is such a critical topic, and the outlets for published research on this subject so few, I/S commits an entire issue each year to this topic. Papers for the privacy issue will be presented at an annual privacy symposium, organized by the Center for Interdisciplinary Law and Policy Studies and offered under joint sponsorship with the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
